Why are Location Services Required for Desktop?
In order to use theScore Bet, we are required to verify your physical location during use. On desktop, this means providing us with location services, through our third-party location service - GeoComply.
Note: We also require users to enable location permissions through your browser
GeoComply
Upon signing up via the web platform or logging onto it for the first time, you will be required to verify your physical location using our third-party location service - GeoComply. As a first time user, you will be prompted to install the GeoComply plug-in onto your browser. You can do so through the following links.
Mac: https://ums.geocomply.com/installer/url/?version=4.0.0.4&os=mac&id=39hMXJDJOu&user_id=39hMXJDJOu
Windows: https://ums.geocomply.com/installer/url/?version=4.0.0.4&os=win&id=39hMXJDJOu&user_id=39hMXJDJOu
If you are a returning user, you will simply need to Allow GeoComply to run their geolocation checks via a pop up from your browser.
GeoComply Firefox Update
This is an advisory regarding an upcoming change in the Firefox browser that will require users operating desktop devices (macOS and Windows) to take appropriate action.
The latest Firefox version 144 update will prompt users to grant Local Network Access to retrieve location data.
Required User Action: When prompted, the user must take the following steps to retrieve location data.
1. Select the "Remember my choice for this site" checkbox.
2. Click "Allow" (Location access will then be granted)
Note: Users will only need to do it once, as Firefox will retain the selection. PLC reinstallation is not required. The security of the user’s environment is not compromised because the permission is only granted to the user’s specific web application.
After the permission is accepted, a geolocation check must be triggered after the permission is accepted, as is typical, to ensure the user flow continues appropriately. It is recommended that testing be conducted to ensure proper user flow in the context of the new permission prompt.
Impact:
- If a user clicks "Block", location data cannot be retrieved until the permission is updated.
- If a user clicks "Allow" but doesn't select the "Remember my choice for this site" checkbox, the permission prompt will be shown again when the site is reopened.
- This affects users of desktop Firefox (macOS and Windows).
Troubleshooting:
If a user mistakenly selected 'Block,' please advise them to use the following steps to restore permission:
1. Click the site permission icon on the left of the address bar
2. Click on the “Blocked” button to clear the permissions of the current site.
3. Refresh the page and try to use the site. When the permission request appears, select the "Remember my choice for this site" checkbox and click "Allow".
